Design for Additive Manufacturing

Basics of Dfam

Target: No support structure / as low as possible

Generative Design

Generative design is a organic method to generate a part according to the target loads with the most optimum part weigth.

Some parts designed with generative design can be manufactured with CNC milling. However the most efficient way is Additive Manufacturing.

Target: Generating a non-existing part via applied forces and fixing forces with choice of production material

Topology Optimisation

Topology optimisation seems similar to generative design however it differ in its core mentality. Topology opt is applied on a existing part to and substracting unnecesary solid parts after running simulation according to the forces applied in real world.

Target: Weight reduction of the existing part
